Phnom Penh Crown struck twice in the second half to snatch their first points of the season in a tough afternoon after they were held to a 0-0 draw at half-time by Bati Youth U18 in an away match at the Bati Football Training Center. Bati Youth U18 goalkeeper made double saves within three minutes to stop Phnom Penh Crown forward Paulo Victor’s effort inside the penalty box before producing the second save from another effort. Paulo Victor got another great chance, but his low shoot was saved before Va Sokthorn got the ball from the rebound and netted home a disallowed goal as he was in the offside position.
Ten minutes later, Paulo Victor headed wide over the cross bar from Yeu Muslim’s corner before the referee allowed a half-way break in the first half due to the hot weather. Va Sokthorn produced a stunning one-two display with Paulo Victor before his low shoot from the close range was brilliantly saved by the home side’s goalkeeper before Seut Baraing edged past the opponents’ right-back to make a low cross to Paulo Victor, whose effort went off target. Paulo Victor was a busy striker in front of the Bati Youth U18 goal after his low strike from the right-hand side was denied by the post before Va Sokthorn’s effort was headed away.
Phnom Penh Crown coach Leonardo Vitorino made early changes in the second half, with Mao Piseth and Pov Ponvuthy coming on, and it then worked well as the attacking duo scored one goal each just within three minutes.
It took Phnom Penh Crown eighty minutes to break the deadlock thanks to Mao Piseth’s stunning free-kick near the corner flag after his first free-kick was saved before Pov Ponvuthy’s thrilling effort curved into the top left corner to make it 2-0 for the Red Singha. Suon Noeut, who was another second-half substitute, produced his first strike, but it was punched away by the opponents’ goalkeeper before Paulo Victor headed wide from the near post. Bati Youth U18 got a free-kick in the last minute of the injury time, but the effort was wide before the final whistle was blown to hand Phnom Penh Crown their first win of the season.
