Phnom Penh Crown fought hard to secure a 1-0 win over Angkor Tiger at the Smart RSN Stadium on Sunday to remain unbeaten in the Metfone Cambodian League this season.

Paulo Victor’s second-half strike is the difference as the Brazilian’s winner helps Phnom Penh Crown return to top of the Metfone Cambodian League after Week 5.

Following a 1-0 win over the Siem Reap side, Phnom Penh Crown have yet to concede any goals in five matches in a row, but Sum Vanna insists that his side’s defense isn’t at their best yet.

Speaking to the post-match interview, Sum Vanna said: “We all know that Angkor Tiger are a good team, and they are among the top-4 teams. Their team preparation is good, so we are aware of how tough the game would be. Both sides created chances and played box to box, and they [Angkor Tiger] also created several chances. We got a very clear chance, and Paulo Victor scored.

“Since the start of the season, our defense is not at our best yet, but we are always trying to fix the issues. Up to now, we need to rotate some players to make them understand our formation and style of play.

“All of our players still have not fully understood our formation, and we see the problems from game to game. Therefore, we are trying hard to fix those issues during the training. There are some problems in our midfield, meaning that we need to make adjustment to support our attack.”

Brak Thiva was brought on late in the first half to replace Mao Piseth, but was then replaced by Lim Pisoth with two minutes remaining, and the Red Singha coach pointed out that it’s his tactic. Meanwhile, Esoh Omogba remained as an unused substitute due to a thigh injury.

Sum Vanna said: “It’s the team tactic, and we had already planned before the game. Omogba has a thigh issue, so we didn’t want to risk him. We want him to get full recovery ahead of the next game.”
