Three goals from three different players see Phnom Penh Crown run out 3-1 winners against Ministry of National Defense in last night’s Metfone Cambodian League encounter, with Sum Vanna explaining a huge win over Tep Longrachna’s side came from the team effort and determination.
Mao Piseth’s header from Seut Baraing’s sublime corner kick gave Phnom Penh Crown an early lead, but Dzarma Bata struck late to draw Ministry of National Defense level just two minutes before the half-time break.
Paulo Victor won the penalty after he was fouled inside Ministry of National Defense’s penalty box by Sor Piseth, and the Brazilian slotted home a perfect penalty kick to restore Phnom Penh Crown’s lead.
Second-half substitute Va Sokthorn bagged his first league goal for Phnom Penh Crown in the stoppage time to ensure Sum Vanna’s side a massive three points.
Sum Vanna told ppcfc.com: “Tonight’s victory came through our team commitment and spirit. Everyone worked so hard to get the victory. We don’t usually put pressure on our players because we allow our players to play based on the team tactic and their understanding of the game.
“Our boys didn’t read the game well and especially when to attack. We still have some issues with our counter attack, so we need to work on it more.
“Football in Cambodia is moving forward season by season, and we are not making a step backward. The players have improved a lot too in terms of tactic, so we also need to understand the players’ contact on the pitch.”
Last night’s huge victory at the Smart RSN Stadium means Phnom Penh Crown have won four successive league matches at home, which shows the progression of the team ahead of their visit to EDC Stadium for their league clash with Electricite Du Cambodge next week.
The 38-year-old caretaker manager said: “It’s a good progression that the team have made. We work closely with the players to improve them. We don’t keep them alone, so when they make mistakes, we try to fix and correct them.
“Electricite Du Cambodge have used only Cambodia’s local players, and for us we have only two foreign players. Like I said Phnom Penh Crown are the club that is trying hard to produce talented young players, and those players are as capable as the foreign players. This means that we don’t have any issues in selecting the players to play.
“We need to give our all to fight for another three points. We need to win the games to improve our league position in the first round of this season. We were very disappointed that we were beaten 1-0 by Soltilo Angkor, and we dropped three points.
“We are trying to sign some more local players, and we have tried to assess their performance too. The issue is that they also have their contract with another club, so we need to look at some Asian players.
“Some European and Latino players struggle to adapt to the weather condition, foods, and other things here.”
