Orn Chanpolin’s dramatic late winner sees Phnom Penh Crown secure a hard-fought 2-1 win over Kirivong Sok Sen Chey

A disappointment after Dav Nim’s late equalizer turned out to be an exciting end at the Smart RSN Stadium as Phnom Penh Crown ran out 2-1 winners against Kirivong Sok Sen Chey thanks to Orn Chanpolin’s last-gasp header in the final minute of the injury time.
Phnom Penh Crown looked threatening from the beginning till the end of the first period, with Ream Serng’s powerful head from Brak Thiva’s corner kick denied by the cross bar, and then Paulo Victor sent out an effort that went wide over the bar.
Kirivong Sok Sen Chey made their first attempt as Dav Nim headed from the far post, but it was only an easy save for Kong Chanvuthy, who made his first league appearance of the season, before Phnom Penh Crown had their goal disallowed for offside.
Phnom Penh Crown continued to push forward hard, with the efforts from Paulo Victor, Brak Thiva, and Orn Chanpolin saved by Kirivong Sok Sen Chey goalkeeper Kong Thnou. Brak Thiva took advantage from the opponents’ awkward clearance before his effort inside the penalty area was pulled away.
Paulo Victor picked up the ball at the tie angle before he fired home an effort that was pulled away by Kong Thnou, but then the ball met Orn Chanpolin, who unleashed a powerful strike that was denied by Kong Thnou’s strong hands.
One minute later, Phnom Penh Crown were in front thanks to Brak Thiva’s header. The midfielder ended his goal drought after he headed home his first Metfone Cambodian League goal of the season, handing the home side a deserved 1-0 lead.
With five minutes remaining before the half-time break, Paulo Victor unleashed a powerful strike that required Kong Thnou to pull away before Brak Thiva’s low shot from the distance went off target.
Kirivong Sok Sen Chey took control in the first ten minutes into the second half and produced an early clear chance. Kong Chanvuthy was tested by Kirivong Sok Sen Chey’s real opportunity as he made a good save from Reiya Konishita’s low effort.
Pov Ponvuthy made his first attempt that was wide over the cross bar after the forward came on to replace Mao Piseth. Paulo Victor came close once again, but Kong Thnou made another quality save to deny the Brazilian forward’s left-foot effort.
Pov Ponvuthy sent out a good ball that met Brak Thiva, who tapped the ball wide off target from the near post before Dav Nim bagged a late equalizer for the visitors with a fabulous long range effort.
But then Orn Chanpolin headed the winning goal for Phnom Penh Crown from the near post in the final minute of the injury time to secure a hard-earned three points for the home side in a dramatic 2-1 win over Kirivong Sok Sen Chey.
