Match report: Red Singha thrash EDC 3-0 in their Metfone Cambodian League opener

A brace from debutant Timothy Okereke and a further goal from Choun Chanchav helped Phnom Penh Crown demolish Electricite Du Cambodge 3-0 in their opening Metfone Cambodian League match at the Smart RSN Stadium tonight.
A dominant first-half performance saw Phnom Penh Crown take a deserved 2-0 lead at the break, with the goals coming through Timothy Okereke and Choun Chanchav.
Timothy Okereke scored on his first league debut for Phnom Penh Crown to put the home side in front after Neito picked up a long ball from center-back Yue Safy before delivering a low cross for the Nigerian striker to slot home the first goal of the Metfone Cambodian League this season.
In the twenty-ninth minute, Choun Chanchav doubled Phnom Penh Crown advantage. The midfielder was close to get his second goal, but his header from Neito’s cross was saved by opponent goalkeeper Kong Peelot.
Captain Orn Chanpolin, who was deployed as a center-back, made a timely block from Virak’s cross in a dangerous situation. Then in another end, Esoh Omogba’s shot was blocked by Titchy.
Kong Peelot made two great saves to deny the efforts from Timothy Okereke and Esoh Omogba. Timothy Okereke received a sublime through ball from Neito, but the striker’s low effort was denied by Kong Peelot’s left foot.
Few minutes later, Esoh Omogba’s header from Yeu Muslim’s corner kick was pulled away by Kong Peelot.
With five minutes remaining, Timothy Okereke had another great chance, but his effort inside the box was superbly saved by the visitor’s goalkeeper.
Timothy Okereke’s hard work paid off as he smashed home Phnom Penh Crown’s third goal from the rebound after Esoh Omogba’s early header was saved by Kong Peelot.
Um Vichet produced a fantastic save from Kimhong’s powerful strike in the stoppage time to ensure a clean sheet in his Phnom Penh Crown debut as the Red Singha secured all three points with a convincing 3-0 victory over Electricite Du Cambodge.
