Chhum Sok Hai is excited to gain promotion to join Phnom Penh Crown’s first team after spending three years with the academy team, and he also explains the challenges he will encounter as one of the youngest players in the first team.
The 18-year-old midfielder targets match time in the Hun Sen Cup as he understands it will be hard for him to challenge for a place with Red Singha captain Orn Chanpolin and Japanese midfielder Masaaki Ideguchi in the Metfone Cambodian League.
Chhum Sok Hai told ppcfc.com: “I’m very excited to join the senior team as it will be very challenging, and it demands a strong training and hard work. It will be my first season with the first team, so I feel a bit pressured. I will try to adjust myself and enjoy this challenge.
“I won’t be able to play in the first round of the season, so I will fight to get some game time in the second round. Luckily, we have a great coach. Coach Sum Vanna is always helpful and ready to support and guide young players.
“It would be hard for me to challenge for a place in the team as we have a lot of good players in the same position as mine. We have Cambodia international player Orn Chanpolin and foreign player Masaaki Ideguchi, but I think the coach can play me against average team such as Bati Youth in the last few minutes of the game.
“I think I can get more game time in Hun Sen Cup than in Metfone Cambodian League. I will give my all even in the last seconds of the game. I need around two more seasons to get ready for the first team.”
