Phnom Penh Crown will face last season’s champions Nagaworld at the Army Stadium this Sunday, with goalkeeper Svang Samnang, who kept his first clean sheet of the season last week, needing nothing but three points.
Svang Samnang has made two Metfone Cambodian League appearances for the Red Singha this season in a frustrating 3-2 loss to Boeung Ket in the opening league campaign before helping his side beat Asia Euro United 1-0 at home.
The 18-year-old goalkeeper refused to take all credit for last week’s clean sheet as he explained that a tough 1-0 triumph against Asia Euro United thanks to good team defense.
Svang Samnang told ppcfc.com: “I’m very happy to help the team win three points, and it is my first clean sheet in two games that I played.
“The clean sheet against Asia Euro United is not only for me, but also for the whole team for our good team defense as we also performed really well in the midfield and attack.”
With five matches down, Phnom Penh Crown sit in the ninth place in the Metfone Cambodian League table with nine points behind table toppers Preah Khan Reach Svay Rieng.
Svang Samnang is aware of how tough it is to face reigning champions Nagaworld in an away match as they have several experienced players in Cambodia’s top flight; however, he believes that Phnom Penh Crown are ready to fight for the points.
“It will be a tough game against Nagaworld because they are last year’s champions, and they have a lot of experienced players especially former Cambodia international players. Hopefully, we will perform well against them,” he added.
“We need three points to close the gap with other teams in the league table. Our expectation is nothing less than three points.
“I think I’m not at the level I want yet, but I’m always ready to play. It is up to the coach regarding who to play.”
