Phnom Penh Crown thrashed Electricite Du Cambodge 3-0 at home in the opening Metfone Cambodian League encounter that they should have scored more than three with the chances they created.

The visitor applied defensive approach and looked for opportunities to play quick counter attack, which forced the Red Singha to play from the both flanks.

Neito delivered a sublime cross from the left-hand side, and Timothy Okereke finished it off nicely with a low effort to put the Phnom Penh side ahead with twelve minutes on the clock.

Choun Chanchav netted the second goal of the night before Timothy Okereke struck late from the rebound to secure three points for Sum Vanna’s side.

Speaking in the post-match interview, Sum Vanna said: “It’s our first game, and we worked a lot prior to the game. Electricite Du Cambodge have a lot of talented youngsters, and they performed outstandingly as a team and individuals.

“Electricite Du Cambodge defended so well, and they defended with ten men. Then it’s hard for us to push through midfield, so we tried to play from the wings and win the ball as quick as we could.

“We should have done better and scored more, and we need to improve our confidence. We need to move the ball quickly and took advantages over the opponents’ mistakes.”

Sum Vanna was forced to play midfielder Orn Chanpolin as a center-back as defensive duo Kok Boris and Sok Sovan were not fit on time for last Saturday’s superb win over Electricite Du Cambodge.

The Red Singha head coach added: “We don’t want to risk Boris or Sovan, who are not fit yet, so we played Chanpolin as a center-back. We want to keep them for another match.”
