Phnom Penh Crown suffered a 5-2 defeat to league leaders Preah Khan Reach Svay Rieng at the Smart RSN Stadium last night, with Sum Vanna explaining the heavy defeat due to the lack of communication and confidence among the Red Singha players.
The visitors dominated the first half and created several opportunities, but it’s Dzarma Bata, who opened the scoring to put Phnom Penh Crown in front through a brilliant header.
Then Preah Khan Reach Svay Rieng bagged two goals to bring a 2-1 lead into the half-time break, with the goals coming through Soun Sovan and right-back Sareth Krya.
Jonathan Campbell, Jean Privat, and Hoy Phallin found the target to help Preah Khan Reach Svay Rieng lead 5-1 before Paulo Victor pulled another goal back for Phnom Penh Crown as Conor Nestor’s side ran out 5-2 winners.
The Red Singha were without a host of key players during last night’s defeat as first-option goalkeeper Saveng Samnang and Brak Thiva had ankle and illness issues.
Meanwhile, Paulo Victor, who came on to replace Shane Booysen, was not fit 100 per cent, but managed to play through pain.
The Phnom Penh Crown caretaker manager told ppcfc.com: “We had planned and applied our tactic well during the training sessions, but in the actual game the situation was different. Then we lost communication between defenders and midfielders, and we also lost confidence.
“They are a strong team and a high quality team. They did well as a team from the goalkeeper, defense, midfield, and attack. They kept their quality of play for the entire game.
“When we lost the possession in the attack, our midfielders couldn’t cover the central midfield on time, and we had a lot of problems with our defense too.
“We made changes in our defense as Yue Safy was deployed as a right-back, while we used Sok Sovan as our center-back. There’s always room for improvement, but we have no choice. Sovan, Serng, and Safy did not connect well to help in defense, so we had a lot of defensive issues.
“Brak Thiva is sick after we trained during the rain, and Saveng Samnang has ankle issue. He didn’t feel comfortable enough with his ankle, so we decided not to play him.
“In the first half, we tried to put more men in the central midfield, but Shane Booysen was not at his best last night.
“Paulo Victor was not fit 100 per cent, and last night he played though pain.”
