Despite a disappointing defeat to Kedah FA, Sum Vanna is pleased with the experience that Phnom Penh Crown got from last night’s clash with a strong team from Malaysia Super League.
The Red Signha went down 2-1 against Kedah FA in the final match of the 2020 Smart RSN Stadium Cup at the Smart RSN Stadium, which saw the Malaysian side lift the pre-season trophy.
Sum Vanna introduced several youngsters in the second period of the decisive tie after the Phnom Penh side trailed by 2-0, with Kedah FA’s second-half goals scored by Kipre Tchetche and Azman Hadin.
Sath Rozak, Mao Piseth, Lim Pisoth, and goalkeeper Chhin Chhainuth came off the bench in the second half, and with three minutes remaining Lim Pisoth slotted home to pull one goal back for Phnom Penh Crown.
Phnom Penh Crown tried to push hard in the final minutes of the match, but Kedah FA’s strong defence handed them a narrow 2-1 victory that won them the 2020 Smart RSN Stadium Cup.
Sum Vanna told ppcfc.com: “It’s a good experience for us to face a strong team of Kedah FA, who are about to play in the AFC Champions League.
“We had a good preparation prior to the game, and our players applied our game plan. We didn’t do well in our attack, and we created a lot of chances in the first half. I think our strikers should have done better with their movement and finish.
“We need to give time to our players to experience playing together, so I introduced several young players in the second half. I wanted to give them game time to play together as our team development is still in process.”
