Sum Vanna reveals key that could improve Phnom Penh Crown’s attack after the Red Singha missed several good chances in front of Kirivong Sok Sen Chey’s goal during last night’s hard-fought victory at the Smart RSN Stadium.
Phnom Penh Crown were made to work hard to secure three points at home after Dav Nim’s late equalizer cancelled out Brak Thiva’s opening goal in the first half, but then skipper Orn Chanpolin stepped up to bag the last-gasp header to hand his side a dramatic 2-1 win.
Sum Vanna told ppcfc.com: “It’s somewhat hard for us to make some changes in our formation, but not a big chance as we are trying to make our attack more dangerous. We don’t attack well as a team, so our finish wouldn’t be dangerous either.
“We are trying to improve our attack, and our boys did well. But there are still some situations that we need to improve, which is the final pass. The pass that can put their teammate in a good position to score, and they need to make a pass that can create space for their teammate.
“We still have some problems with our finish as we don’t have a real killer in front of the opponents’ goal. We are still making progression on teamwork and support from the left and right flank.
“We don’t have big issue in our defense as we try to defend as a team, but our real problem is finish and some areas especially from the midfield to attack.”
Phnom Penh Crown now have three foreign players following the departure of Brazilian duo Darlan Martins and Santanna. When quizzed whether the addition of new foreign players would make his side stronger, Sum Vanna analysed that some of his players are at the level of the foreign players.
Sum Vanna’s side will have another tough task to complete at home this Saturday as they face Ministry of National Defense that have quality foreign strikers, who can cause Phnom Penh Crown’s defense in troubles with their physical advantage.
The caretaker manager said: “We don’t have enough foreign players, but some of our boys can play at the similar level with the foreign players. However, with the addition of foreign players it would be great for us as they can help to make an impact.
“We have to be ready and more well-organized against Ministry of National Defense as they are a good team, and they have a lot of quality and experienced players who are also playing for the National Team. They are good with team work in the midfield, and their crosses are dangerous too as they have strikers with height advantage.”
