Phnom Penh Crown put twelve goals past Bati Academy U18 at the Smart RSN Stadium last night, and Sum Vanna is surprised by this incredible victory, which is Phnom Penh Crown’s biggest league win so far this season.
Despite last night’s massive win, Sum Vanna is still worried about Phnom Penh Crown’s defense as they conceded a late goal against Bati Academy U18, with the caretaker manager pointing out that there was a miscommunication among the Red Singha’s defenders.
After leading 5-0, Sum Vanna replaced attacking duo Paulo Victor and Shane Booysen with Mao Piseth and Lim Pisoth, who went on to score Phnom Penh Crown’s seventh and eighth goals. Sum Vanna introduced young local strikers as he wanted to prepare a strong squad for the Hun Sen Cup tournament in which only local players are allowed to take part.
Sum Vanna, who won Coach of the Month award for June, told ppcfc.com: “We are trying to use different players for different games as we also take part in the Hun Sen Cup at the same time, so we used many local players against Bati Academy U18. It’s good to give a chance to our young local players to get some minutes, but they need to try harder. This is good for the Hun Sen Cup as we reach the quarter final.
“We targeted three points against them, and I expected only two or three goals. In reality, we didn’t perform as expected in the first half, so we made some changes in the second half. We switched our formation to 3-4-3 and tried to play short balls to create more chances.
“We still had communication issues among our defenders, so when we lost possession, we were sometimes in trouble.
“We have seen a lot of positive things about our attack after we singed new strikers, and hopefully our team will be more balance from defense to midfield and then to attack. I hope to see our counter attack more effective in the next games.”
