Phnom Penh Crown defeated Angkor Tiger 1-0 to snatch a hard-earned three points at the Smart RSN Stadium thanks to Brak Thiva’s second-half strike.
Last night’s narrow win over the Siem Reap side is Phnom Penh Crown’s fifth league triumph in a row at home after two straight defeats to Boeung Ket and Visakha.
Phnom Penh Crown’s caretaker manager Sum Vanna admitted that it’s always hard to play Oriol Mohedano’s side, who are on form this season as Phnom Penh Crown are the only second team to win three points from them.
Sum Vanna told ppcfc.com: “It’s a very tough game and a hard fight between two teams who really need three points. Both sides had a good preparation, and it’s very important for us to win three points to improve our league position.
“We knew their weakness. We had five shots on target, but we scored one goal. I think we still need to improve our finish. We don’t have player No. 9, so we use Paulo Victor in this position.
“In the second half, they played long balls a lot, and that’s what we had already prepared to deal with them.”
After securing a massive three points against Angkor Tiger, Phnom Penh Crown sit in the fifth place with two points ahead of Visakha, who face defending champions Nagaworld this evening, and they are eleven points behind league leaders Preah Khan Reach Svay Rieng.
Sum Vanna, however, is still optimistic about the Red Singha’s season as he looks to improve the team in the second round of the season.
The 38-year-old said: “Our season is not over yet, so we still hope [to win the league title] as big teams will need to face each other. They can lose points in their next games, but we need to do our business in the next thirteen games in the second half of the season.
“I hope we will improve more in the second round of the league, and our main target is to finish the season in the top-4 zone if we can’t win the league.”
