Phnom Penh Crown demolished Electricite Du Cambodge 7-0 at the Smart RSN Stadium, but Sum Vanna insisted that the Red Singha should have bagged more goals.

The home side brought an easy 3-0 lead into the half-time break thanks to Mustafa Zazai’s opener and a brace from Brazilian striker Paulo Victor.

Early goals from Yeu Safy and Shane Booysen in the second half with other two from Dzarma Bata helped Phnom Penh Crown secure comfortable three points against Prak Vuthy’s side.

Sum Vanna admitted that he didn’t expect his side to score many goals but was impressed with the team performance against the visitors who liked to defend for the entire match.

Sum Vanna told “We didn’t expect to score many goals; we only targeted three points. I tried to explain the formation so that the boys could understand it well.

“Electricite Du Cambodge tried to defend in front of their box, and sometimes they defended with nine players and kept only one for counter attack. Our players knew quite well how to deal with that situation.

“It’s normal to miss some opportunities in front of the opponents’ goal as it depended on the space, time, and position of the players. In the second half, [Dzarma] Bata had many chances. He should have scored five or six goals, but his finish wasn’t very good maybe due to his decisions.

“We tried to play short passes, and when we got chances, we tried to switch sides as we couldn’t go forward easily against many opposition players in front of their box.

“We played a lot of foreign players except Brak Thiva up front, so it’s hard for local players to get goals. What we are doing is to prepare and improve the team for next season.”
