Pov Ponvuthy, who came on to replace Mao Piseth with twelve minutes remaining, is excited with his great assist for Paulo Victor’s match winner against Asia Euro United (AEU) at the Smart RSN Stadium last Sunday.
Phnom Penh Crown secured their first league victory at home in the 2019 Metfone Cambodian League with a narrow 1-0 win over Asia Euro United thanks to Pov Ponvuthy’s great ball for Paulo Victor to score the winning goal.
The forward made a huge impact after coming on in a tense clash with Sok Veasna’s side through his sublime pass with a low ball that was well taken by Paulo Victor, who stirred it past Asia Euro United goalkeeper Yotin into the net.
“I’m very happy and excited that I could assist to Paulo Victor’s goal. The coach asked us to play more low balls and to make some good moves to make space,” Pov Ponvuthy told ppcfc.com.
“We tried very hard to score because we needed the goal. We tried to push forward as the time was also running. We continued our hard work to beat them.
“Every game is important for us and especially for our supporters as they want us to win at home. They want to see our good performance at home to win the games.”
The match was delayed by thirty minutes due to heavy rain before the referee allowed the match to kick off, though some parts of the pitch were covered by water.
“Rain made it hard for us to control the ball and make accurate passes, so it’s very hard,” the 21-year-old explained.
Following last week’s crucial win over Asia Euro United, Phnom Penh Crown move from tenth place to ninth in the Metfone Cambodian League table before they face Nagaworld in an away match at the Army Stadium this Sunday.
