It’s a night to forget for Phnom Penh Crown at the Svay Rieng Stadium as Preah Khan Reach Svay Rieng ran out 5-1 winners to hand the Red Singha a painful defeat, which is their third defeat in four league matches this season.
Preah Khan Reach Svay Rieng created two early goal-scoring opportunities with their effective long balls, but Sok Samnang and Charles Machell’s efforts were denied.
Sok Samnang received a long through ball from the center of the field, giving him a great one-on-one situation with Phnom Penh Crown goalkeeper Leonardo Oliveira, but the forward couldn’t find the target before Charles Machell headed wide over the cross bar.
With a quarter on the clock, Sok Samnang gave Preah Khan Reach Svay Rieng the lead with a stunning strike that went through the top left corner.
Pich Owen had a chance to equalize for Leonardo Vitorino’s side, but the midfielder’s header from Seut Baraing’s free-kick was wide over the cross bar.
Two minutes later, Preah Khan Reach Svay Rieng doubled their advantage through Prak Monyudom’s penalty after Choun Chanchav committed a handball inside Phnom Penh Crown’s dangerous box.
However, Phnom Penh Crown were rewarded a penalty after Shuhei Mitsuhashi was brought down in the Preah Khan Reach Svay Rieng penalty box by Jonathan Campbell, who was then booked for his foul on the Japanese midfielder.
Paulo Victor converted from the spot well as he sent the opponents’ goalkeeper, Aing Sovanarath, to the wrong side with a low shot to the bottom right corner to pull one back for Phnom Penh Crown.
Phnom Penh Crown had a sloppy start into the second half as they conceded three early goals after the interval. Privat extended Preah Khan Reach Svay Rieng’s lead to 3-1 with a well-placed header from Suon Sovan’s cross.
Just two minutes later, Prak Monyudom made it 4-1 for Preah Khan Reach Svay Rieng before Phnom Penh Crown left-back Seut Baraing hit the post with a fabulous free-kick.
Preah Khan Reach Svay Rieng got their fifth goal of the match as Privat scored his second goal. The forward edged past Brazilian goalkeeper Leonardo Oliveira before kicking the ball into the net to make it 5-1.
Jonathan Campbell made double headers, with the Preah Khan Reach Svay Rieng center-back’s first attempt denied by the post before another header went wide over the cross bar.
Phnom Penh Crown fought hard to get goals back, but they were also made to work hard to deal with the opponents’ counter attack. Aing Sovanarath made a brilliant save from Choun Chanchav’s powerful strike before Preah Khan Reach Svay Rieng snatched all three points with a convincing 5-1 win.
