Phnom Penh Crown were beaten 3-2 by Boeung Ket in the Cambodian Classic Match and also the opening Metfone Cambodian League battle at the RSN Stadium despite an early lead through Paulo Victor’s great strike. Phnom Penh Crown produced a great start to the match with their dominance and chances they created before Paulo Victor put the home side in front inside ten minutes of the thrilling match. Va Sokthorn won the ball from Hong Pheng’s awkward pass and made a run that broke into Boeung Ket’s penalty box, but his low shot was saved by Hul Kim Huy before Darlan Martins’ bicycle kick went wide over the crossbar. Orn Chanpolin produced a great pass for Darlan Martins, who used his physical advantage to beat Boeung Ket’s defender on a one-on-one situation; however, his low strike was denied by the opponents’ goalkeeper.
Paulo Victor, who missed a big chance in the fifth minute of the play, introduced himself to the Metfone Cambodian League with a fabulous long-range strike to give Phnom Penh Crown an early lead in his debut match. After going one goal behind, Boeung Ket tried to push forward in search for an equalizer with several crosses from the right-hand side. Sleh Sen edged past Seut Baraing to dribble into Phnom Penh Crown’s dangerous box before making a low cross that was cleared.
Phnom Penh Crown goalkeeper Svang Samnang was forced to make double saves as he punched the ball away from Carrascosa Angel’s free-kick before making another easy save from Tes Sambath’s low shot. Ly Mizan made a nice turn inside Phnom Penh Crown’s penalty box after receiving a pass from Oiboh Julius before his low strike was saved by Svang Samnang. Boeung Ket’s effort paid off with a late equalizer from Yue Safy’s own goal just four minutes before half-time after the Phnom Penh Crown defender failed to clear the ball from Gbenga Samuel’s low cross.
Boeung Ket created big moments early into the second half as Oiboh Julius came close to give them the lead, but his weak shot was saved by Svang Samnag before Carrascosa Angel’s brilliant strike that went over Svang Samnang into the net gave the visitors an important lead. Ten minutes later, Ly Mizan scored Boeung Ket’s third goal to make it 3-1 after the midfielder’s low shot deflected by Ream Serng hit the back of the net, but Nov Sokseila, who came on to replace Paulo Victor, scored to reduce the visitors’ lead to 3-2. Va Sokthorn got a great chance to draw Phnom Penh Crown level but his attempt went wide before Darlan Martins’ header from Seut Baraing’s cross was also wide over the crossbar as the visitors secured a narrow 3-2 victory.
