A brilliant performance from each half in tonight’s league clash sees Phnom Penh Crown run out 3-1 winners against Ministry of National Defense to secure their second successive league victory at the Smart RSN Stadium in a row.
Despite their great dominance in the first half that handed them an early lead, Phnom Penh Crown suffered a late equalizer through Dzarma Bata’s sensational goal before the half-time break, but Paulo Victor’s penalty and Va Sokthorn’s stoppage time strike earned Sum Vanna’s side three massive points.
Mao Piseth opened the scoring with a well-placed header to put Phnom Penh Crown ahead in the eighteenth minute of the play after the forward received a great corner kick delivery from left-back Seut Baraing.
Shuhei Mitsuhashi came close to score his first league goal for Phnom Penh Crown when the Japanese attacking midfielder produced a brilliant piece of skill as he edged past two opponent defenders before his low shot was off target.
Phnom Penh Crown’s momentum continued, and they looked dangerous from the left flank, with Ministry of National Defense goalkeeper Um Vichet required to make two great saves to deny the efforts from Shuhei Mitsuhashi and Orn Chanpolin.
Shuhei Mitsuhashi picked up a through ball inside Ministry of National Defense’s penalty area, but his effort from the close range was pulled away by Um Vichet’s one strong hand. Two minutes before the break, Ministry of National Defense bagged an equalizer as Phnom Penh Crown struggled to deal with Dzarma Bata’s pace and physical strength. The Nigerian forward made a brilliant dribble from the center of the field before netting his thirteenth league goal of the season to cancel Mao Piseth’s opener.
Phnom Penh Crown were rewarded an early penalty in the second half after Ministry of National Defense center-back Sor Piseth fouled on Paulo Victor, who converted it nicely from the penalty spot to restore Phnom Penh Crown’s lead as he sent Um Vichet to the wrong direction with a great penalty kick.
The tension increased just after Phnom Penh Crown retook the lead. Svang Samnag made a great save from Roeum Chanroeun’s effort from the near post before Phuong Soksana and Mohamed Hamza’s efforts were blocked.
After that, Phnom Penh Crown produced treble efforts as Yue Safy headed wide, and Paulo Victor and Shuhei Mitsuhashi couldn’t capitalize on the great chances they got as their efforts couldn’t beat Um Vichet.
Roeum Chanroeun made a low cross that met Oup Kamol after an awkward clearance inside the box, but the Ministry of National Defense midfielder’s low shot was denied by Svang Samnang’s right foot.
Paulo Victor’s low effort from the left-hand side was pulled away by Um Vichet, and Svang Samnag made a brilliant save from Reung Bunheing’s effort from one end before Va Sokthorn netted his first league goal of the season with a low effort that went through Um Vichet’s legs to secure a huge 3-1 victory over Ministry of National Defense.
