Phnom Penh Crown beat Kirivong Sok Sen Chey 2-1 at the Smart RSN Stadium to secure a hard-earned three points, with Orn Chanpolin heading the stoppage-time winner that he dedicates to his teammates for their hard work and the supporters for their amazing support on Sunday night.
Sum Vanna’s side tried to push hard in the first half of the contest with a great dominance of the play and created several good chances on which they couldn’t capitalize before Brak Thiva’s header from the far post gave Phnom Penh Crown a deserved 1-0 lead in the twenty-fourth minute.
After going one goal down, Kirivong Sok Sen Chey tried to increase their possession in the second half and produced momentum that put Phnom Penh Crown under fire in a few occasions, and then Dav Nim scored a late equalizer.
Kirivong Sok Sen Chey were so close to leave the Smart RSN Stadium with a point, but Orn Chanpolin bagged a dramatic late header from Va Sokthorn’s perfect corner kick delivery to earn Phnom Penh Crown three vital points.
The Phnom Penh Crown skipper explained his side’s poor performance in the second half due to the tiredness after they tried to push hard in the first half.
Orn Chanpolin told ppcfc.com: “In the first half, we performed really well, but in the second half we allowed them to play with the ball comfortably. We were also tired in the second half and focused so much on defense, so that gave them a big motivation to fight during the game. They were also determined to push forward till they scored an equalizer.
“Winning 1-0 or 2-1, it’s all about three points, but I think winning 1-0 is better as we don’t want to concede goal and keep a clean sheet. We feel better to keep a clean sheet rather than conceding goal.
“That goal means so much to me. It’s a great feeling. We could have drawn 1-1, but in the final minute of the game I scored – then we won three points. I’m really happy with the three points. My goal is for the whole team and especially the fans as they kept supporting us and giving us power till the end of the match.”
