Leonardo Vitorino has revealed what that could be the key battle in Phnom Penh Crown’s home defeat to Boeung Ket in the Cambodian Classic Match at the RSN Stadium on Saturday night. Boeung Ket came from behind to secure a narrow 3-2 win that is their second victory over Phnom Penh Crown at the RSN Stadium in two successive seasons in the Metfone Cambodian League. Paulo Victor gave Phnom Penh Crown a great start as the Brazilian produced a stunning strike that put the home side in front inside ten minutes in his debut match for the six-time champions of Cambodia.
Leonardo Vitorino’s side missed several good opportunities and they were punished by a late own goal from Yue Safy, who failed to clear Gbenga Samuel’s low cross from the close range. The situation became tougher for Phnom Penh Crown as the visitors bagged two goals in the second half to lead 3-1 before Nov Sokseila, who came on to replace Paulo Victor, scored just minutes after being used. With the chances his side missed, Leonardo Vitorino pointed out that his team needed to be more ruthless and took the chances they created, with the 45-year-old also demonstrating that Phnom Penh Crown created more chances in the match.
Leonardo Vitorino told ppcfc.com: “It’s a great match for our opening league game. We created several chances, but we were not lucky to score. Boeung Ket got a few chances, and they scored three goals. They are luckier than us. “What we need to do next is to work harder to strengthen our team. It’s like what I said before the game that it would be a very hard game for us, but I’m confident that our players will improve in the next games.
“We need to be more effective. We need to take our chances. If we create the chances, we need to score. We played well, but the problem is our finish. “Boeung Ket may have three chances, but they scored three goals. We created four or five good opportunities, but we could score only two goals.”
