Im Somoun is another young player to join Phnom Penh Crown first team after Chhum Sok Hai, and the striker reckons this opportunity as a big step forward in his football career.
As a kid, Im Samoun played for his primary school team and a high school team before joining semi-professional side Kampong Speu United.
He represented his hometown in the Soccer League in Phnom Penh, where he was discovered by Red Singha coach Sum Vanna, who then made his childhood dream come true by handing the youngster an opportunity to join Phnom Penh Crown.
The 21-year-old told ppcfc.com: “I’m very happy to join Phnom Penh Crown, and it’s my dream to play for the club. Playing for Phnom Penh Crown will be a great experience for me, and I’m very happy for this opportunity. Here at Phnom Penh Crown, we train hard and play strong.
“After I played in the Soccer League tournament in Phnom Penh, Coach Sum Vanna contacted my coach to invite me to join Phnom Penh Crown. All my hard work has just paid off, and joining Phnom Penh Crown is a big step forward in my career. I will do my best to get a call-up to join the national team.
“At first, it’s very hard for me as my stamina was not there yet, and it’s what I must keep improving. I used to train for a semi-professional club, but now it’s a big professional club.
“It’s always challenging to play for a big club like Phnom Penh Crown, and for me I don’t have any professional experience yet. I know it will be very difficult for me to fight for a place in the team as we now have a lot of experienced players.
“My target is to give 100 per cent for the team, and I need individual training to improve. After training with the club for many weeks, everything is getting better.”
